THE ONE WORD LOVE POEM

Posted by lehunt on August 16, 2015

He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

Mary.

This is one of the most touching verses in all of the Bible to me.  I wanted to write a poem about it until I realized that it was already a poem, a one word poem.

Mary.

In the setting, this one spoken word is so sublime, evokes so much feeling, that it does the work of a beautiful poem all by itself.  Rendered into prose it means something like …

“It’s me, your friend.”

“I’m alive.”

“Wake up.  You’re having a bad dream.”

“Don’t cry.”

“The Scriptures are true.”

“God is real.”

“I am the Messiah.”

“I can save you.”

“I can save your loved ones.”

“God loves you.”

“I love you.”
