SWEET RIVER FOOL - Alcoholic, homeless, and alone, Snody despaired of life until a seemingly chance encounter with Saint Francis of Assisi led him to the joys of Christ and the redemption of his soul…

  • THE GLORY OF KINGS - A proposal for why God will always be the best explanation for the existence of the universe.

  • ENOCH WALKED WITH GOD - Enoch had a beautiful soul and walked with God in many ways. This book invites children to imagine what some of those ways might have been while presenting them with a wonderful model for their own lives.

Genesis 5

Chapter 5

v. 1:  I think humanity’s creation in the image of God is mentioned here to draw attention to the new type of our relationship to God.  Our primal relationship to God is as a wife to her husband.  The woman was made in the image of the man.  Our new type is as a child to his parents.  The child is made in the image of the parents.[1]

v. 22:  The statement, “Enoch walked with God” has captured my imagination ever since I first heard it.  We see here and in v. 24 the two senses in which the statement should be understood.  In v. 22, the statement means that Enoch walked with God by being faithful to God, by being his friend all the days of his life.  In v. 24, we see the mysterious consequence of his being so close to God:  God allowed him to ascend to heaven without having to face death.  Perhaps something similar happened to Elijah (2nd Kings 2:11).

As I say, the statement “Enoch walked with God” has always captured my imagination.  One of the most rewarding ways I have found to meditate on its meaning is to write a children’s picture book about this fascinating person.  Click here to link to The Eastern Gate Presssite, which describes the book.

In the video below, you can see scanned images of the book’s interior as I read from it.  I also give a brief introduction to the book.

v. 29:  Noah comforted us by being God’s instrument for our preservation from the flood.  As for Lamech’s prediction that Noah would be farmer, see 9:29.
