I Samuel 21

Chapter 21

v. 1:  Why did Ahimelech tremble?  What seems to concern him is that David is alone.  One might assume that he knew of the trouble between David and Saul and was afraid to get mixed up in it, but his bold behavior toward Saul in chapter twenty-two discourages such an interpretation in my mind.  Perhaps it is something about David himself that makes him afraid.  It reminds me of 16:4.

v. 7: The phrase, “detained before the LORD,” makes it seem as though he had some official business at the tabernacle which he could not leave.

v. 10:  How ironic that David should go to Gath bearing the sword of Goliath of Gath.
