James 2

In this chapter, James is not advocating works over faith, but rather he is emphasizing the inseparable relationship between truly good works and faith that is acceptable to God.  The presence of divinely acceptable faith necessarily implies the presence of good works just as a living body implies the presence of a spirit.

v. 16:  Thus, the benediction “be warm and well fed” is not genuine in the first place under those circumstances.

v. 19:  This sounds a little sarcastic, as if belief in the mere existence of God were almost as self-evident as believing that two plus two equals four.
