Chapter 2

Barnes seems inclined to believe that “the angel of the LORD” is a special type of angel whose presence is (by proxy) the same as God’s.  That may be, but I do notice that what appears to be this same angel is also referred to in Joshua as “an angel of the LORD.”  I am not sure why the translators distinguish between these two articles.

v. 14:  This phrase “sold them to their enemies” could easily have been designed to summon up the memory of their slavery in Egypt.  See also v. 18.
