Larry Hunt's Bible Commentary

SWEET RIVER FOOL - Alcoholic, homeless, and alone, Snody despaired of life until a seemingly chance encounter with Saint Francis of Assisi led him to the joys of Christ and the redemption of his soul…

  • THE GLORY OF KINGS - A proposal for why God will always be the best explanation for the existence of the universe.

  • ENOCH WALKED WITH GOD - Enoch had a beautiful soul and walked with God in many ways. This book invites children to imagine what some of those ways might have been while presenting them with a wonderful model for their own lives.

Judges 3

Chapter 3

v.2:  This reason is certainly different from that of 2:22 and might be explained thus: God’s original reason for leaving some of the pagan nations in Canaan may have been to teach the new Israelite generations how to wage war (3:2), but after Israel turned to evil, God may have decided to use these nations as a test and a rebuke of his people, as 2:22-23 says.  Or perhaps the order of events was the reverse: God initially left the nations to test and rebuke Israel, and then (as a matter of practicality) used the opportunity to teach the new generations how to wage war.

v. 11:  Note that this is the same Othniel as the one in 1:13.
